Hollywood marriages are notoriously short-lived. Whether the cause of the break-up is clashing egos, physical distance for work, or plain old infidelity, a high-profile romance is a house of cards. This cliché proves painfully true so often that when two famous people get married and stay together more than five years, it's considered a pretty good run. So, it's no surprise that some celebrities look for love outside the "workplace," and what better place to find a mate than amongst your devoted fanbase? They already love you, so the hard part's over! Here's a list of stars who took the meet-and-greet to a whole other level.
Elvis And Priscilla Presley
According to Elvis' official fan website, The King of Rock and Roll met his future wife, Priscilla, in Germany while he was stationed there during his time in the U.S. Army. Priscilla lived on-base because her stepfather was an officer in the Air Force. As a 14-year-old American girl, Priscilla was of course a huge fan of Elvis, so she jumped at the chance to meet him through a mutual acquaintance. They didn't officially start a romantic relationship until about three years later, though Priscilla maintained that Elvis was promising her she "was the only girl for him," since she was 15. Yeesh. They married five years later in 1967, but it only lasted until 1973, perhaps as a result of persistent rumors of affairs as well as actual affairs The King had with his beautiful co-stars. We know the 1950s and 1960s were a different era, but this whole saga has a very Chris Hansen-y vibe that we're not quite comfortable with.
